Pension Transfer

If you have built up a UK pension and would prefer to take control of managing your assets via an international structure rather than have it managed by a UK based scheme manager, you may wish to consider transferring the existing scheme to a SIPP.

What is a SIPP?

A Self Invested Personal Pension (commonly referred to as a SIPP) enables individuals to invest into a pension for retirement and their own decisions about the investment options held within or, in most cases, have access to greater investment choices when dealing with financial advisors.

In a nutshell, a SIPP carries the advantages and disadvantages of any other UK based personal pension scheme, except that in regular personal pension plans where the options for investments are limited to those available through the pension provider or fund manager. With a SIPP, you are free to choose which funds you put your money into – or even simply place cash.

There are a number of benefits as well as drawbacks to this option and we will look at these below, taking into account how a SIPP is managed compared to other UK pension schemes.

Life & Critical Illness Assurance

What is Life Insurance?

Life Insurance, also known as life cover or life assurance helps you to financially protect your family's future. It could pay out a cash sum if you die while covered by the policy. You choose the amount of life cover you need and how long you need it for and you can pay your premiums monthly or annually. Life Insurance offers reassurance that your family will still be looked after financially should the worst happen.

What is Critical Illness Cover?

Critical illness cover could pay out a cash sum if you get one of the specified critical illnesses we cover during the length of your policy, such as heart attack, cancer or stroke.

Critical Illness Cover can be added for an extra cost when you take out either life insurance or mortgage life insurance. Extra benefits are included at no additional cost, such as Terminal Illness Cover and Accidental Death Benefit. Terminal Illness Cover could pay out the full amount of cover when life expectancy is less than 12 months.

Shareholder / Business Protection

If a shareholder in your private limited company, or partner in your partnership were to die, could you afford to purchase their share of the business? If not there could be significant implications for the future of your business. Share protection can help you protect the ownership of your business in this situation.

How does Share Protection work?

In the event of a business owner dying or being diagnosed with a terminal or specified critical illness*, share protection can provide a lump sum to the remaining business owners. This means that in the event of a valid claim being made during the length of the policy, the lump sum could be used to help purchase the deceased partners/shareholding directors/members interest in the business.

Medical Insurance

If you're an expatriate, you should consider that relying on inadequate local government run medical facilities may cost you your health, whilst paying for private medical treatment may cost you your livelihood! There are many providers of international health plans covering Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia.

These plans may also include the provision for worldwide travel cover and personal accident insurance if required.
